Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of extremely fine needles at specific points of the body. The theory behind acupuncture is that there are two thousand energy points on the body that are connected by twenty pathways [meridians] running throughout the length of the body. These pathways conduct flow of energy called “qi” or “chi”, meaning life force. Blockage of energy in any of these points can cause pain in the body. Acupuncture serves to clear any type of energy blockage in any of the pathways and thus reduce pain effectively.

Treatments offered by acupuncture schools

All the diseases prevalent in human body are the result of energy blockage in the pathways. So when these blockage points are removed, automatically you will be cured from all types of diseases. During an acupuncture treatment session performed by the acupuncture schools, almost one to twenty metallic needles are inserted into the body. While some of the needles rest on the surface of the skin, the others are inserted from one to several inches into the layers of fats. The needles are kept there in resting position for at least twenty to thirty minutes.

The acupuncturists to enhance the reduction in energy blockage often keep jiggling the needles. In certain instances like treating high blood pressure with acupuncture, electrified needles are used for fast and better cure. Often the practitioners also use an amount of burned herbs at the end of the needle to encourage negative energy to leave the body along with the smoke.

Acupuncture treatments for back pain, shoulder and neck pain

Atlanta schools of acupuncture follow some rigorous acupuncture techniques that promise sure results for all types of diseases. Back pain is a disease that can range from dull ache to a constant sharp pain that leaves people irritated. Even neck and shoulder pains can be equally disgusting as they continue to be acute and stop all your normal activities.

Acupressure is a wonderful remedy for back pain, neck and shoulder pain. The practitioner presses some acute points near the meridians of the body with the thumbs and fingertips to reduce pain. With the applied pressure the blocked energy starts flowing and all pains are reduced. Atlanta acupuncture for spinal injury is also effective as the blocked “chi” or energy in spinal chords gets released with application of acupressure and pains related to spinal injuries gets cured instantly.

Acupuncture treatments for smoking and skin diseases

Atlanta for stop-quit smoking is also effective, as permanent smokers have known to cease smoking completely with acupuncture. The treatment involves insertion of five needles into the ear [particularly in the cartilage and not in the ear canal] and a few on the hands and wrists. It also involves applying a mixture of oil of cloves and wintergreen extracts of Evodia fruits and Sichuan lovage rhizomes to quit smoking faster.

Acupuncture for acne, psoriasis and allergies are an effective treatment, as it reduces the diseases instantly. All these infections are autoimmune systems that occur due to inflammations in the blood vessels. So when the acupressure needles are pricked onto the skin, they are also manipulated through hands by rubbing the acupressure points or the ends of the needles are electrified to produce instant results.

Mattresses are one of the most important factors to avoid back pain as most people spend at least 7 hours on them each day. Sleeping on a bad mattress can cause back pain as they usually lack back support and can effect the alignment of the back.

It is definitely worth taking the time to select the best mattress for your body that supports your back whilst you sleep and one that is comfortable to sleep on.

The type of mattress you choose must be comfortable and have the necessary back support to reduce back pain and give you a good night sleep.

A good mattress usually is around 7 to 18 inches deep with a good number of spring coils for support allowing the body to be supported and at the same time allowing for the natural curves and alignment of the spine.

A good mattress can be bought by go to a showroom that has lots of brands and varieties, and start by lying on the firmest mattresses the store has to offer. Then lie on the softest ones. That gives two good comparison points. Find a mattress that is between the two end points, but closer to the firmest ones than the softest. Get on the mattress in your normal sleep position and evaluate the mattress for the level of comfort and support that feels right for you also discuss their mattress purchase with their doctors.

The majority of back stiffness occurs while sleeping, to reduce this from occurring you can:

*Make sure that your pillow can support your neck, but too many pillows can cause neck strain. Sleep on a contoured pillow to avoid neck strain – you want to keep your neck and spine in-line while you sleep.

*Try putting a small pillow between your knees when you sleep. This will help keep your hips in-line, avoiding lower back stiffness.

? Ensure your mattress is big enough for you and your partner. If you are sharing a small mattress, you may sleep in awkward positions because you are being crowded out.

? A saggy mattress contributes to muscle stiffness and chronic back pain, this can be avoid by purchasing a orthopedic mattress that contains more support than a regular mattress.

*If you have trouble sleeping, try lying on your back with a pillow under your knees, or sleeping on your side with your knees bent and a pillow between your knees.

*Your bed should be a height that makes it easy to get into and out of. When getting in, sit on the edge, lower your body on to one elbow and shoulder, and draw up your knees and then feet. Reverse the procedure to get out.

The other option is to go for a adjustable beds they are different than standard flat beds because they allow users to change the incline angle of the head of the bed and, in many cases, at the foot of the bed as well. A slight incline of the head (no more than 45?), coupled with additional support under the knees, can help reduce pain, particularly leg and back pain from herniated discs and/or spinal stenosis.

It also helps a patient to get out of bed without having to roll and sit up as much as if one who was rising from a flat position.

The back is indeed one of the most functional part of a person’s body. Everyone basically needs to rely on their backs as the central workforce of the human body, for it is very important in almost all bodily movements and functions. Functional as it is, the back, however, is also very susceptible to pains and injuries.

Back pain can be very distressing and disabling for most people. Eight out of 10 adults suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain is among the top reasons for health consultations of adults to doctors and experts.

Although back pain is a very common illness that one can easily acquire or develop, it is actually a very treatable health condition. There are a lot of simple back pain remedies that a person can perform in the comfort of his home. Also, proper health maintenance is also essential to avoid having back pains.

Most cases of back pain generally improves when treated with simple, alternative cures. However, if the condition does not show any improvement, then it needs to be consulted immediately to a doctor.

The following are some back pain conditions that require one to immediately consult a doctor:

1. If the pain is intense and constant.
2. If the pain causes numbness and weakness in the legs.
3. If the pain goes with sudden weight loss.
4. If the pain causes bladder or bowel complications.
5. If the pain is accompanied with fever or abdominal pain.

For non-serious cases of back pains, the following are five simple treatments that are known to provide back pain relief:

1. The power of heat and cold

It is said that heat and cold are among the best mediums to treat back pain. A hot bath and a cold compress are sure to give soothing relief to aching back and inflamed muscles. Most people prefer to use a cold treatment first to calm the spasms in the back muscles. When the spasms subside, a heated pad is applied on the aching back to loosen the tighten muscles.

2. The magic of pain relievers

Pain relievers such as ibuprofen and aspirin are among the commonly recommended back pain relief medications by most doctors today. These anti-inflammatory drugs control stiffness, pain, and swelling.

3. Acupuncture as a stimulating treatment

As acupuncture becomes a popular alternative cure for a number of health conditions today, it is also a perfect complementary remedy to simple back pain conditions. This type of back pain relief treatment can stimulate the body’s central nervous system to discharge natural pain-relieving endorphins.

4. Simple stretching routines

Perhaps the simplest form of back pain relief is stretching. Back pain is relieved in this simple routine as one stretches his back gently, thus, making the muscles relax. Stretching prevents the muscles become tense.

5. Move, move, move

If a person is suddenly attacked by serious back pains, he tends to crawl back to bed, thinking that it is the best way to relax the aching muscles in his back. This doesn’t, however, help in any way to remedy the pain. Instead, it is better to avoid doing the things or activities that trigger back pains, and just continue doing other tasks that are not painful.

Backache is one of the most common problems faced by patients. Lumbago is a general term for mild to severe lower back pain or discomfort usually arising from muscles and ligaments. The symptoms are not always discrete. Generally speaking, a pain sensation across lower part of back that sometimes radiates into thighs, buttocks or other lower regions. It worsens on movement. It is usually said that we are as young as our spine, so if our spine is flexible and supple, we will remain young even at eighty. Bending exercise are beneficial for a healthy spine but these should be practiced preferably under supervision of a good yoga teacher. In spite of every case most people experience backache sometime or the other.

Any severe problem of the spine can only be corrected by exercise. Contrary to the earlier belief when stress was laid on rest and immobilization nowadays it is believed tht ?Rest is rust? as prolonged rest will lead to thinning of bones and weakness of the supporting structures. Rest is recommended only in the acute stage, when pain is severe, so we must start moving as soon as possible and enter a good exercise programme, or the axiom will hold true that ?once a backache, always ba backache.?

Causes

Many causes of backache, but the largest number result from strain, fatigue and lack of balance. Strain may result from unnatural posture while sitting, standing and walking, or trom a one-sided occupation. Those who carry weight on one side, such as postmen, or children with their school books usually over one shoulder may have considerable backache–and may develop definite spinal curvature.

Other causes of strain are a poor muscular balance or abnormal abdominal conditions, such as enlarged or prolapsed organs, obesity, etc. Fatigue often results from a constant attitude in such occupations as require stooping, bending or lifting heavy objects. In many cases abnormal muscular balance results from fallen or broken arches of the feet or from the use of poorly fitting shoes. In these cases the pain usually extends upwards from the lower extremities to the back.

High heels are very prolific causes of backache. The natural foot is constructed to walk best in a horizontal position, with the heel no higher than the sole of the foot. The muscles are designed to support the body best in this position. When heels of two or more inches in height are worn it is necessary for the muscles of the back to be unnaturally tensed in order to support the trunk in the erect position; also the pelvic bones must tip in an unnatural position, placing stress upon certain muscles and ligaments, and pains or aches will result in some degree.

Symptoms

A symptom is an indication of disease, illness, injury, or that something is not right in the body. Symptoms are felt or noticed by a person, but may not easily be noticed by anyone else. For example, chills, weakness, achiness, shortness of breath, and a cough may be symptoms of pneumonia.

A sign is also an indication that something is not right in the body. But signs are defined as things that can be seen by a doctor, nurse, or other health care professional. Fever, rapid breathing rate, and abnormal breathing sounds heard through a stethoscope may be signs of pneumonia.

Having one symptom or sign may not give enough information to suggest a cause. For example, a rash in a child could be a symptom of a number of things including poison ivy, an infectious disease like measles, an infection limited to the skin, or a food allergy. But if the rash is seen along with other signs and symptoms like a high fever, chills, achiness, and a sore throat, then a doctor can get a better picture of the illness. In many cases, a patient’s signs and symptoms do not give enough clues by themselves for the doctor to figure out the cause of an illness. Then medical tests, such as x-rays, blood tests, or a biopsy may be needed.

Prevention

Exercise is important for preventing future back pain. Through exercise you can: Improve your posture, Strengthen your back and improve flexibility, Lose weight, Avoid falls.

A complete exercise program should include aerobic activity (eg. walking, swimming, or riding a bicycle) as well as stretching and strength training.

It is also very important to learn to lift and bend properly. Follow these tips:

1. If an object is too heavy or awkward, get help.
2. Tighten your stomach muscles as you lift the object up or lower it down.
3. Hold the object as close to your body as you can.
4. Lift using your leg muscles.
5. Spread your feet apart to give a wide base of support.
6. Stand as close to the object you are lifting as possible.
7. Bend at your knees, not at your waist.
