Good afternoon! Let’s talk some football!
Nathan (DC)
What do you make of this “right of first refusal” proposal that was revealed today? Is it simply to keep GM’s heads from exploding once free agency starts?
KC Joyner
It’s probably a combination of that and team officials trying to do anything they can to keep costs down.
KC Joyner
One quick thing – Peter Falk of Columbo fame died last week. Chatters probably know him best as the grandfather in The Princess Bride, so any questions that contain quotes from that movie will get priority today!
Corey (D.C.)
KC, what do you think will happen with the Packers RB situation? I own Starks in a Dynasty League, but am getting some good offers for him. I like his upside, but is he promising enough to pass on a deal I know is good for me?
KC Joyner
Really depends on the deal but his situation is one of uncertainty. If you have a deal that you know is good, it is probably worth taking.
Jimmy N (Arlington, VA)
Hello Scientist! Need some sage keeper advice. “I HAVE JUST ONE MORE QUESTION… I know I’m keeping Charles (3rd) and Mccoy(4th). I have one more to choose from Dez Bryant (7th round), Matt Ryan (10th), or Shonn Greene in the 9th?
KC Joyner
I’m assuming you already have Sage as a keeper, right?! Out of that list, Greene looks very promising but since you already have two keeper RBs, go with Ryan. The addition of Jones will turn that passing game into near elite status.
KingKev (TX)
How many QBs do you think you will rank above M.Vick this season?
KC Joyner
Vick has a history of not being able to start 16 games. Some of the elite 16 game starters (e.g. Rodgers, Rivers, etc.) should end up ranked higher than him if history once again repeats itself.
mike (new jersey)
will the steelers finally beat brady this year?
KC Joyner
Brady is just about to hit the age of 35. That age is when the human body starts to show signs of significant break down. It might not be this year that they top Brady but give it another two years and the time could be ripe.
Snakes (Philly)
Underrated Peter Falk role- the boxing/mob guy Ripstein in “Undisputed”. Labor deal gets done… when KCJ?
KC Joyner
Mrs. Scientist and I may have to put that on our summer movie list, haven’t seen it before. It’s based more on hope than rumor, but the deal probably gets done in the next week. Owners and players both do not want to miss preseason monies.
A Martian!!!! (Kansas City, MO)
Who do you think KC should target in the OT area if free agency comes? I’m thinking Matt Light.
KC Joyner
He’d be a short-term fix but is a perfect fit for what the Chiefs need at this moment.
Aggie (TX)
Hey KC, what elements will Rob Ryan bring to the Dallas D? What type of a 3-4 does he run?
KC Joyner
Ryan mixes things up a lot. The big change is that he isn’t like Wade in the area of pass rushing. Phillips liked to bring five rushers all the time and Ryan will vary that element.
nick (pennsylvania)
Ed reed or Troy Polamalu?
KC Joyner
Polamalu. Reed is a great ballhawk but Polamalu can ballhawk and bring the hammer.
Aggie (TX)
Would you prefer Kyle Williams or Wilfork for next year only?
KC Joyner
Williams. He was positively disruptive last season. Put him on a good team and the guy would have been an All-Pro candidate.
Dennis (Kansas City, MO)
What do you think about Dolphins rookie Daniel Thomas? Does he have what it takes to make a difference in Miami’s poor rushing game?
KC Joyner
I did a review of Thomas’ three games against the best Big 12 run defenses he faced last year. In those contests, he averaged 6.1 yards per attempt on plays with good blocking. That is a solid NFL number but he posted it against collegiate competition. If he can’t keep that number as high in the pros, he’ll be an average RB.
Sean (Iowa) [via mobile]
Does Percy Harvin have what it takes to become an elite receiver or will he be a great slot receiver/return man?
KC Joyner
Harvin will always be a run after the catch type of player. He’s really more of a running back in wide receiver’s clothes. Not saying that to knock him but rather to note he still has a ways to go to be an all-around WR.
Sean O. (Annapolis)
Who is the #1 kicker on your board?
KC Joyner
Hard to believe we are talking kickers in June! Hard to say who is number one but a very good sleeper candidate could be Henery. He was the Eagles draft pick and will be playing on a team with a very good offense. Throw in how well he did in pressure situations at Nebraska and it could equal an elite NFL kicker.
Aggie (TX)
I have heard rumors that Ike Taylor is the Eagles target in FA. Would he send that D over the top and propel them deep into the playoffs?
KC Joyner
Taylor offers very little in the way of coverage. His metrics over the years have been subpar and sometimes worse than that. If the Eagles are looking at him, they must be thinking they can improve his pass coverage skills the way they have done with many other CBs.
KC Joyner
Hey there, hate to cut this short but I just had a time-sensitive assignment come over and have to get to it ASAP. Before going, would like to mention two items. The TFS 2011 Fantasy Football Draft Guide is available for pre-order at www.thefootballscientist.com. More TFS material can also be found on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all next week!
